LOCAL BUILDER HONORED FOR HOMES IN GRAYSON

#

Roy Wendt, President of Wendt Builders, was recently presented with a Livable Communities Award by the National Association of Homebuilders and the AARP.  Roy, who is developing and building homes in the Village at Olde Town Grayson, received the award for homes that are well-designed, safe, comfortable and accessible, regardless of the occupants’ age or abilities.

Where Mr. Wendt’s “Easy Living” homes shone through was in execution.  The award noted that universal design could be beautiful as well as functional, with style, taste and the thought to create unique homes and communities.

Wendt Builder’s prize-winning home includes such features as barrier-free showers with seats and hand-held sprayers and, according to President Roy Wendt, kitchens with “more drawers than doors so you don’t have to bend over to get in the cabinets”.

Wendt said universal design gives him something to offer buyers that the national builders can’t provide.  “The giants are so large, they can’t accommodate the wider doors and hallways in their floor plans”, he said.  “It’s a great niche for a small builder”.

The EasyLiving Home’s rustic exterior reflects the charm of its historic neighborhood.  The judges were impressed by the foresight that went into the fashionable and functional design of the two-story home, which has all the EasyLiving Home criteria on the first floor.

The Village at Olde Town Grayson is located at the intersection of Georgia Highway 20 and Rosebud Road in the heart of Grayson, Georgia.
