City (municipal) non-partisan elections are scheduled and conducted in accordance with Georgia State law and the Grayson City Charter.
On December 5, 2016, Gwinnett County and all municipalities within Gwinnett County were designated as a covered jurisdiction under Section 203 of the Federal Voting Rights Act of 1965. Section 203 of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 mandates that election officials and staff in covered jurisdictions must provide language assistance including “any registration or voting notices, forms, instructions, assistance, or other materials or information relating to the electoral process, including ballots,” on an equal basis with all that is provided in English. CALL FOR ELECTION 2023
Notice is hereby given that an election will be held in the City of Grayson, Georgia, on Tuesday, November 7, 2023 at the Grayson Senior Center, 485 Grayson Parkway, to elect two members of the City Council. The terms of office of Post 1 Council Member James Gillespie and Post 3 Council Member Gene Ussery will expire on the first Monday in January 2024 and their successors are required to be elected in the municipal election scheduled for November 7, 2023.
All persons desiring to run for the office of City Council Member shall qualify in the office of the City Clerk of the City of Grayson located at City Hall, 475 Grayson Parkway, Grayson, Georgia, beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, August 21, 2023 and ending at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 23, 2023. Those desiring to run for City Council Member shall pay a qualifying fee of $10.00. Qualifying fee shall be paid at such time of qualifying.
If any person whose name is not on the municipal registration list desires to vote at said election; he or she shall register, on or before 4:30 p.m. on October 10, 2023. Registration forms are available in the office of the City Clerk.
Any person who is presently registered as a voter in said City but who now resides outside the city limits is not eligible to vote in said election. All duly qualified electors of the City of Grayson, Georgia, are urged to participate. Those qualified to vote at said election shall be determined in all respects in accordance and in conformity with the laws of the State of Georgia.
Advance (in person) voting will be conducted from 9:00 AM until 5:00 PM Monday-Friday, October 16-20, Monday-Friday October 23-27 and October 30- November 3, Saturday, October 21 and Saturday, October 28 at 475 Grayson Parkway, Grayson, GA 30017.
Polls will open for this November 7, 2023 election at 7:00 a.m. and will close at 7:00 p.m. at the Grayson Senior Center, located at 485 Grayson Parkway, Grayson, Georgia. Computation of votes cast in the November 7, 2023 election will be conducted in the Grayson Senior Center at time poll closes.
If no candidate receives a majority of the votes cast, a run-off election shall be held between the candidates receiving the two highest number of votes. A run-off, if necessary, shall be held on December 5, 2023. The Georgia Election Code and the City Charter governs this and all City of Grayson elections. A copy of the ordinance and/or resolution calling for the election is on file, together with other relevant documents, for inspection at the City Clerk’s Office, 475 Grayson Parkway, Grayson, GA., between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Voter Registration
All residents of the City of Grayson who are registered voters have the ability to elect the mayor and city council members, or to vote on special referendums that affect city taxpayers. Please note that simply having a Grayson mailing address does not necessarily entitle you to vote in Grayson municipal elections: Only residents within city limits are eligible.
Voter Registration
To register to vote, you must:
- be a citizen of the United States
- be a legal resident of the County
- be at least 17.5 years (at least 18 to vote)
- not be serving a sentence imposed by the conviction of a felony involving moral turpitude.
- not have been found mentally incompetent by a judge.
Georgia citizens have access to several convenient methods of registering to vote:
- Register to vote ONLINE! Your social security number is also required at time of registration.
- Contact your local county board of registrars’ office or election office, public library, public assistance office, recruitment office, schools and other government offices for a mail-in registration form.
- Registration is offered when you renew or apply for your driver’s license at Department of Motor Vehicle Safety driver’s license posts.
- College students can obtain Georgia voter registration forms, or the necessary forms to register in any state in the U.S., from their school registrar’s office or from the office of the Vice President of Academic Affairs.
The Gwinnett County Voter Registration office (678-226-7210) processes all applications. Approximately 2 – 4 weeks after mailing your application, you should receive a precinct identification card that will list your political districts and polling location for City, County, State and National elections. When voting in City (Municipal) elections, Grayson City Hall is the only polling precinct. You will likely have a different voting precinct for any other elections.
If you are registering for the first time in Georgia, and you register by mail, you are required to provide ID by one of the following ways:
- Mail a copy of the identification with your voter registration application
- Provide a copy of the identification to the registrar before or at the time you cast a ballot
Once you are registered, you may also verify your National, State and County precinct and polling location by visiting the Secretary of State Poll Locator.
Change of Residence
Voters are required to notify the board of registrars of their county of residence whenever they move. If you need to change your name and/or address, complete the same form used for registration, then print, sign, and mail. Although you are registered to vote, the form is an official government document and therefore must be completed in its’ entirety.
If you move outside the city or county in which you are registered to vote within 30 days of an election, you may vote in your old precinct for that election. If you move outside the city or county in which you are registered to vote in excess of 30 days prior to an election, you have lost your eligibility to vote in the city or county of your old residence. You must register to vote in your new county of residence. You will be assigned a new voting precinct and polling location. Remember, if you don’t register to vote by the deadline, you cannot vote in that particular election.

VOTING IN CITY (MUNICIPAL) ELECTIONS
There are several ways to vote in city elections: Absentee Voting by Mail, Absentee Voting in Person (Early Voting), and Election Day in person.
ABSENTEE VOTING BY MAIL:
To request an absentee ballot by mail, please complete an absentee ballot application. Absentee vote-by-mail applications are available on our website and may be submitted up to 180 days prior to Election Day. Complete the application mail to Absentee Ballot Clerk, PO BOX 208, Grayson, GA 30017, or you may fax it to 678-339-0687. You may also scan/e-mail it to admin@cityofgrayson.org. Once voter registration is confirmed, a ballot will be mailed to you along with instructions on how to process it. Once you receive the ballot, it should be clearly marked, sealed in proper envelopes and mailed back to: Absentee Ballot Clerk, City of Grayson, PO BOX 208, Grayson, GA 30017. All completed ballots must be received by the Elections Superintendent prior to 7:00 p.m. on Election Day to be counted.
ABSENTEE VOTING IN PERSON (Early/Advanced voting):
Early Voting for the next Municipal Election will be held in accordance with state law: October 12, 2021 until October 29, 2021. Monday-Fiday from 9:00-5:00. 475 Grayson Parkway.
